2017 Dodge Journey

While shopping for a new car or SUV can be an exciting proposition, if you are working within a tight budget (and who isn’t), shopping for a new car of SUV can actually just be extremely frustrating. Sure, it’s great to read reviews about all of the new cars and SUVs on the market – the ones fully loaded with all of the very top amenities… until you get to the starting MSRP and realize that the price of that new car or SUV is simply way beyond what you’re actually hoping to spend on your new vehicle. But fortunately, there is a great option out there for savvy shoppers looking to invest in a new SUV – the 2017 Dodge Journey. Available with seating up to seven passengers, the Dodge Journey is an attractive SUV not just for its reasonable and affordable price, but also for its solid performance, roomy interior, and choice of five well-appointed trim levels.

The 2017 Dodge Journey is available in a choice of five different trim types, starting with the base SE. Offering the lowest base price point of any SUV in the Midsize class, the 2017 Dodge Journey SE has an MSRP of $21,145 – which may surprise most shoppers, considering the standard amenities are certainly not lacking in the base SE model. The 2017 Dodge Journey SE is equipped with a push-button ignition, roof rails, heated mirrors, an auxiliary jack, a proximity key, a USB port, a 4.3-inch touchscreen display and a six-speaker sound system. There are several additional options available for the SE model, including the Flexible Seating package for those shoppers looking for the third-row seating option. You can also add Bluetooth functionality and satellite radio to really elevate the already well-equipped base model.

Alternatively, you could simply move up a trim level to the SXT, which includes the third-row seats as well as fog lights, LED tail lights and access to additional package options. The 2017 Dodge Journey in Crossroad trim builds off of the SXT and includes features such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, satellite, and Bluetooth radio and a chrome exterior trim. Moving up the trim types, the Crossroad Plus starts adding luxury amenities such as LED interior lighting, leather upholstery, an 8.4-inch touchscreen display, an SD card slot, a built-in DVD player and a six-way power driver seat.

At the top of the trim lineup, the 2017 Dodge Journey GT starts at $31,945 and is loaded with top-of-the-line features and amenities. If you choose to buy the 2017 Dodge Journey GT, you can expect to ride in true style thanks to the model’s premium audio system (subwoofer included), leather upholstery, heated front seats, sport-tuned suspension, remote start functionality, automatic headlights, heated steering wheel and a 115-volt power outlet. The 2017 Dodge Journey GT is powered by the 3.6-liter V6 engine and rides on 19-inch wheels. In true Dodge Journey form, there are also package options available to those who want to ride in vehicle complete with the whole kit-and-caboodle of amenities.

The 2017 Dodge Journey comes standard with seating for five passengers, although there is an available third-row bench available in some trims, which increases the SUV’s seating capacity to accommodate up to seven passengers. Additionally, the 2017 Dodge Journey is equipped with two LATCH systems, so families with younger passengers (or those planning on growing their families) will have plenty of room for up to two car seats.

While the cargo space in the 2017 Dodge Journey isn’t exactly cavernous – it may not be the SUV you want to take on a long cross-country road trip – it’s perfect for the average family-on-the-go or the solo business traveler. If you choose to drive the 2017 Dodge Journey with the third-row option, you’ll be looking at 10.7 cubic feet of space behind that extra row. However, if you collapse the third row or opt for the two-row model, you’ll have 37 cubic feet behind the seats. And for when you really need to maximize your space, simply fold down the backseats and you’ll have 67.6 cubic feet of space to fill – which is certainly a sizeable space.

New Dodge Journey Performance

Performance

It goes without saying that the 2017 Dodge Journey is not exactly a sports car – so temper your expectations when it comes to your engine options. However, if you’re looking for an SUV that offers a choice of two solid engine options with enough power to get you to and from your office, first in line at the school drop-off and front-row at the kid’s soccer game, then the 2017 Dodge Journey should suit your needs just fine.

The 2017 Dodge Journey comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Powered by 173 horses under the hood, the 2.4-liter four-cylinder gets a respectable 19 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. It is estimated that choosing the standard engine option will cost you around $1,650 in annual fuel costs, which is within a reasonable price point for the Midsize SUV class.

Driver’s concerned that the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine might leave them lagging behind can also opt for the available 3.6-liter V6 engine. Choosing the V6 engine to power your 2017 Dodge Journey will equip the SUV with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission, while also producing a much more impressive 283 horsepower. The 3.6-liter eats into the fuel economy, but only slightly. Upping the engine’s power lowers the fuel economy to a barely-noticeable 17 miles per gallon in the city while remaining identical to the 2.4-liters 25 miles per gallon the highway estimate. You can expect to pay around $1,850 per year in fuel costs if you choose to power your 2017 Dodge SUV with the 3.6-liter, but for the $200 difference, it may be worth absorbing the costs of fuel for the additional boost in power that the bigger engine offers.
